Selena was a popular singer with a paid fan club for her supporters, which Yolanda Saldivar ran.

In March 1995, Selena’s father learned that thirty grand was missing from the fan club, and Saldivar was fired.

Selena met Saldivar at a hotel in Corpus Christi on March 31st, 1995. Sadly, Saldivar shot Selena, and she died at the hospital at 23 years old.

Saldivar claimed it was an accident, but she was convicted of first-degree murder on October 23, 1995.

She was sentenced to 30 years to life on October 26, 1995.

She has been isolated throughout her time in prison, with one former inmate saying, “Everyone knows who she is” and “There’s a bounty on her head.”

Before her first parole hearing in March 2025, media reports claimed that Saldivar told her family Selena “came at her really aggressively” and was partly responsible for her own death.

Saldivar parole was denied. She remains locked up Patrick L. O’Daniel Unit in Gatesville, Texas.

Her next parole hearing is in 2030.
