Murder of Joanne Witt

In 2009, 14-year-old Tylar Witt convinced her mother, Joanne, to rent a room to her friend Steven Colver, who was 19.

Tylar told her mom he was gay.

Weeks later, Joanne found Tylar nude in Colver’s closet, and she kicked him out. Colver left but continued to sneak into the home when Joanne wasn’t around.

Joanne reported him to the police and told Tylar he would be in trouble.

The two took Joanne’s life on June 11, 2009. They ran away to California and were caught 5 days later. Colver received life without parole.

Tylar pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2011 and received 15 to life. She was released in 2022.
