Murders of Francine Leveque and Matisse Alix-Leblanc
On January 31st, 2001, Francine Leveque, who used a wheelchair, died in a house fire. Her cause of death was ruled to be smoke inhalation.
On May 12th, 2003, her grandson, one-year-old Matisse Alix-Leblanc, died under similar circumstances.
Four days after Matisse died, his mother, Melanie Alix, was arrested for his murder. Authorities determined that the most recent fire had six different points of origin.
Authorities questioned Alix and got her to admit to giving her kids something before starting the fire.
They took a look back at the murder of Leveque and determined her fire also had several points of origin. Alix was charged with her mother’s murder and attempted murder in a case involving an unnamed victim.
Legal Proceedings
At her trial in 2005, she testified and blamed her brother for killing her mother. She blamed Matisse’s father for his death. The jury didn’t fall for it.
She was convicted of two counts of murder and two counts of arson.
She was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
