Murder of Kylee Clark
14-year-old Kylee Clark died on July 12th, 2025, at a Detroit hospital after spending 5 days there.
It was determined she died from blunt force trauma to the back of her head. Investigators went to her mother, Vangie Averhart, for answers, and she claimed her daughter choked on some food.
Her story didn’t add up, so she switched gears and blamed the injuries on her boyfriend. Investigators learned he wasn’t around when Kylee was injured, and he was ruled out as a suspect.
As the investigation progressed, there were allegations that Kylee was kept in a locked room, and CPS had previously investigated Vangie for abuse.
Kylee had autism and was nonverbal, and a witness told police that Vangie told her she “didn’t want this child anymore.”
Vangie was arrested on October 27th, 2025, on felony murder charges.
She pleaded no contest to first-degree child abuse in July 2026, and the felony murder charge was dismissed.
The 37-year old was recently sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison.
