Crime
Back in 2002, Leroy McGill was dating a woman named “Angel.” Their acquaintances, Charles Perez and his girlfriend, accused Angel of stealing a shotgun, and McGill was pissed.
The couple lived in the apartment of a man named Jack with several other people. On July 13th, 2002, at 3:30 a.m., McGill went to the apartment. He warned some of the people living there to get out and said he would teach Perez and Yates a lesson.
He was convinced to spare Jack but went ahead with the plan to take out Perez. Once inside the apartment, he poured gasoline on Perez and his girlfriend and set them on fire.
Perez had burns over 80 percent of his body and died the next day. His girlfriend had burned over three-quarters of her body, but she survived.
McGill was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, and arson. Several witnesses testified against him, and he was convicted and sentenced to death.
