Murder of Amanda Doss and her children

On May 11th, 2011, at around 3 a.m., 16-year-old Rachel Pittman went to the home of 34-year-old Amanda Doss. The two were friends, and Pittman had babysat Doss’s kids on several occasions.

After the two chatted for a bit, Pittman acted like she was about to leave, but instead, she pulled out a kitchen knife and killed Doss. She then took the lives of Doss’s kids, 11-year-old Guinevere Doss and 8-year-old Texas Johnson.

The teen set the home on fire using a bottle of gasoline she had left outside.

After her crimes, Pittman went home, cleaned up, and burned her shoes and clothes. She also got rid of the murder weapon.

Detectives investigating the triple homicide got a tip on June 14th, 2011, that Pittman was the perpetrator, but they ignored it.

On August 12th, 2011, Pittman’s mother contacted authorities, and her daughter went in and confessed to the crime.

She claimed that she had an adult friend who had made negative statements about Doss. Pittman perceived that her friend wanted Doss dead, so she killed her.

Pittman planned to plead insanity at trial, but before the trial started, she pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. She is serving 30 years to life.

She will be eligible for parole on August 12th, 2041, when she is 47 years old.
