Crime
Michael Dutkiewicz and Alyssa Wiest were in a relationship for two years and went out on the night of May 17th, 2025, to get some drinks. When they returned home, Wiest told Dutkiewicz it was over.
Heartbroken, Dutkiewicz researched how to load and shoot a revolver. After 25 minutes, he chased Wiest down and shot her with her own gun.
Authorities arrived just before 12:30 am on May 18th to find Wiest outside her West Conshohocken home with gunshots to her torso. She was transported to the hospital, where she died.
NBCPhiladelphia reported that a suitcase with men’s clothing was found inside the home after the shooting.
Thanks to witnesses and license plate readers, as well as other evidence, a warrant was issued for Dutkiewicz’s arrest. According to Fox29, his mother called police, and helped initiate his surrender. His parents later showed authorities where he had hid the gun.
Legal Proceedings
The trial commenced in October 2025. His defense team tried to convince the court that his actions were not premeditated and instead were a crime of passion fueled by drinking and high emotions. According to Fox29, they called a woman who saw the couple being affectionate hours before the shooting. They wanted the option of involuntary manslaughter, but the judge refused to add it.
The prosecution disagreed with the defense, and argued that his spending 25 minutes researching how to use a gun shows he had time to think about what he was doing and change his mind.
According to Fox29, Wiest’s sister testified that Wiest was planning to dump Dutkiewicz in March, but his family had paid for a May trip. Feeling bad about doing it before the trip, she decided to wait until afterward to see how she felt.
Also at the trial footage was shown of the two a couple of minutes before the shooting. Dutkiewicz could be heard asking, “can I get the rest of my things?” while Wiest replied “You’re so dramatic,” then they head inside.
After 3 days, he was convicted of first-degree murder and was later sentenced to life in prison.
