Crime
17 year old Jahara Malik stabbed her boyfriend Yahkeim Lollar in his home’ss garage in December 2024.
The 17-year-old died from his injuries. Malik was questioned after the incident but remained free. According to NBCMiami, Lollar’s family protested and put pressure on the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office to prosecute her.
A month after the stabbing, Malik was arrested and charged as an adult with manslaughter.
Legal Proceedings
She elected not to go to trial, and in March 2026, she pleaded guilty to manslaughter and carrying a concealed weapon. She was not given a plea deal and was facing up to 30 years in prison.
After she pled guilty, Lollar’s family told the media they wanted her to get the max.
When Malik returned to court in May 2026, the victim’s aunt said, “You are a demon seed that your parents brought into this world to bring suffering on everybody else. Shame on them.”
Malik’s defense said the stabbing happened when they were horseplaying.
According to CBSNews Malik spoke and told the court, “Every day I sit and think about the damage I caused” and “The family wants me in prison, but I’m in my own prison for the rest of my life.”
The judge gave her a 17-year prison sentence plus 5 years of probation.
CBSNews reported that the judge ordered her to write a letter every December 20th while she is on probation, “acknowledging what occurred and how it has affected your life.”
