Murder of Rilan Everett
On Tuesday, September 27, 2016, 51-year-old Angela Mossinger Bingham called 911 and said she had taken the life of her 3-year-old grandson, Rilan Everett. She also told them she was planning to delete herself.
Police sped to the scene and saw Bingham walking down the street. She was arrested while officers and paramedics entered her home to find Everett’s decomposing body in a bedroom.
At the station, Bingham told investigators that nine days earlier, she suffocated her grandson with a washcloth. She also revealed she tried hanging and other methods to eliminate herself, but she was unsuccessful.
Further investigation revealed that Bingham kicked her daughter, Everett’s mother, out of the home five months earlier after an argument. In June, the two had an incident that led to a police visit, but no arrests were made.
According to a neighbor, Bingham loved her grandson, was very protective of him, and was trying to get custody of him.
After two years, Bingham pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. A judge sentenced her to 22 years in prison. She never revealed a motive for her heinous crime.
She is locked up at Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in New Castle County, DE. She is expected to be released in December 2034.
