Murder of Kyrie Starks
Kimora Launmei Hodges would babysit Kyrie Starks when his mother went to work.
On June 14th, 2022, Hodges contacted his mother saying he didn’t look right. Kyrie’s mother rushed to Hodges’ Roseville, Michigan home and saw her 23-month-old son having seizures.
Hodges told her he was having an allergic reaction to eating soap. Once he made it to the hospital, the doctors revealed that soap didn’t cause his medical issues; it was severe head trauma. Blood was coming out of his ears, and he needed surgery right away.
Hodges was interrogated hours after the boy went to the hospital. During the three hours of questioning, she reportedly confessed to abusing him.
She was charged with first-degree child abuse. When he died the following day, she was hit with an additional charge of felony murder.
Legal Proceedings
The 24-year-old took the case to trial and was convicted of both charges on July 31st, 2025.
She returned to court for sentencing in early November 2025.
She apologized while also saying, “I am not what these charges say I am”.
The judge sentenced her to life without parole for felony murder. She also received 15 to 40 years for the child abuse conviction.
