Murder of Brooklyn Sims

Keith Agee went to the job of his child’s mother, Brooklyn Sims, on August 11th, 2023, and fatally shot her.

After he was arrested, he claimed he did it because she had given him an STD. It later turned out she hadn’t had anything, and Keith got it from another woman.

Keith wasn’t the only one in trouble; his mother, Sheila, was accused of encouraging her son to commit the crime.

Sheila worked at Home Depot with Sims, and text messages revealed that Keith had contacted her about his plans the day of the crime.

Sheila egged him on in one text that said, “If you don’t come kill her, you a muthafucking bitch.”

His mother also encouraged him to do it at the Home Depot, so their kid wouldn’t have to see the violence.

She was hit with premeditated first-degree murder charges and held in jail without bond.

Legal Proceedings

Keith was convicted of murder at his trial and given life without parole.

His mother went to trial in November 2024, but it ended in a mistrial after jurors reported one juror’s actions made them concerned for their safety. On top of that, a juror was caught doing crossword puzzles during court and deliberations.

At her retrial in August 2025, Keith took the stand to protect his mother, claiming she loved Sims and would not want anything to happen to her.

Sheila testified that her son would usually talk about doing things, but he would never act.

She also said that he would often accuse her of taking Sims’ side, so she pretended to egg him on to make him think she was on his side.

She claimed he acted alone, and she didn’t think he would come to Home Depot that day.

After two days of testimony, the jury got the case. They deliberated for about 2 hours and 45 minutes before reaching a verdict convicting her of principal to first-degree premeditated murder.

Sentencing

Sim’s mother spoke to the court shortly after the verdict was read, saying, “I’ll never be the same.”

Sheila addressed the court next, apologizing for her actions and saying Sims didn’t deserve what happened to her.

The judge had the final word, sentencing Sheila to life without the possibility of parole.
