Corbie Jean Walpole Case
Corbie Jean Walpole was hanging with friends on January 7th, 2024, at her home in New South Wales, Australia. They were consuming adult beverages and illegal narcotics.
Wapole’s 23-year-old friend Jake Loader allegedly made a comment about her getting back in the kitchen.
Walpole didn’t let the comment slide. She poured gasoline on the Loader and then waved a lighter around. He egged her on, thinking his longtime friend would never hurt him, but he was wrong.
She set him on fire. His friends tried to put the fire out with a dog bed before they eventually threw him in the pool.
One witness reported hearing Walpole say, “What the fuck have I done?” as well as “He told me to do it.”
He suffered burns over 55 percent of his body.
She pleaded guilty to burning or maiming by using corrosive fluid.
In May 2025, she was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for her actions. She will be eligible for parole in November 2029.
Appeal
She appealed to have her sentence reduced. At a recent hearing, a forensic psychologist issued a report that said she was suffering from “mental impairment” at the time of the crime, which reduces her moral culpability.
The psychologist also said she had PTSD due to the crime and imprisonment, and her PTSD was also a punishment.
Ultimately, her appeal was denied.
