In September 2017, Taylor Wright had a hearing scheduled, during which she was supposed to hand over $25,000 to her estranged husband.
She went missing days before the hearing. Police learned that Wright was last seen leaving with her friend Ashley McArthur.
When police talked to McArthur, she claimed that Wright and she had hung out and rode horses. She said Wright left in an Uber at around 4:30 pm.
A detective later determined that no rideshares went to McArthur’s home that day.
Cellphone records pointed authorities to a farm owned by McArthur’s relatives. Investigators found remains on the farm that were identified as Wright’s.
Detectives later determined that Wright was trying to hide money from her estranged husband, so she opened a joint bank account with McArthur and put $34,000 in it.
McArthur blew most of the money and killed Wright to cover it up.
McArthur is serving 25 to life.
