On June 6th, 2019, a couple of teens in the Forsyth County woods thought they had heard a baby crying. Alarmed, they told their father. The father thought it was just an animal, but they all went out and searched.
It wasn’t long before they found a newborn girl tied up in a plastic bag.
The abandoned girl was named India, and authorities went on the hunt for her despicable mother.
They worked with Othram Labs and got the identification of the girl’s father. He was unaware she was preganant and was not involved in the abandonment of Baby India.
In 2022, they zeroed in on Jiwani Karima as the child’s mother.
They learned she had a history of hidden pregnancies and having surprise births.
When they arrested her in 2023, she was married and living with her other kids. She was facing criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree cruelty to children, aggravated assault, reckless abandonment and other charges.
Authorities said the believed she gave birth in a vehicle then drove around looking for a place to dump the child.
After her arrested her husband filed for divorce and put out a restraining order on her so she cannot contact him or their kids who were 17, 13 and 9 at the time.
Jiwani pleaded guilty to criminal attempt to commit murder and cruelty to children on February 13th, 2025. The other charges were dropped.
She was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 15 years probation.
Baby India is healthy and is now 5 years old.
