In December 2011, in Seattle, Washington, Brenda Nicholas planned the murder of 70-year-old Francis “Patrick” Fleming to steal his valuable coin collection and uncut bills.
To carry out the murder, she got help from Charles Jungbluth and Gilda Ramirez. Unaware of her real intentions, Fleming proudly showed her his coin collection and where he kept it.
That night, Nicholas and Jungbluth, in disguise, knocked on Fleming’s door at the Four Freedoms senior apartments. When he opened it, they forced their way in, ended his life, and then stole the coin collection and a brown briefcase before fleeing.
Jungbluth’s DNA was found at the scene, and he broke down and confessed during questioning.
Brenda Nicholas was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to 34 years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed. Charles Jungbluth pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and got 22 years, while Gilda Ramirez pleaded guilty to robbery and burglary, receiving just over six years.
