Crime
On October 13th, 2024, Cedar Sarten’s ex dropped their 5-year-old son, Robert, off at her place. The two had shared custody, and it was Cedar’s turn to have the boy.
Cedar allegedly attacked her son with a 20-pound kettlebell. After he was dead, she took a knife to his body.
She then called the child’s father and left a message saying, “We don’t have a son no more.”
The 43-year-old tried to delete herself, but she survived. She called 911 the next day and told the operator her son was dead.
She reportedly said someone “crashed” her son’s brain in, but she did not admit she was the person who did it.
The first responders took Cedar to the hospital while Robert was taken to the morgue. An autopsy revealed he died from blunt force trauma.
Cedar was in the hospital for several days, recuperating from her injuries. Once she recovered, she was booked for two counts of first-degree murder and a count of second-degree murder.
She was locked up in the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center in Eagle River, AL.
Legal Proceedings
According to Alaska.gov, she went to trial in May 2026 with her defense claiming an intruder attacked her and killed her son. The jury didn’t buy it. She was convicted of first and second-degree murder.
