In 1930, 25-year-old Winnie Ruth Judd was hooking up with 44-year-old married man John Halloran.

Halloran was a known playboy, and when Judd thought he might be hooking up with her friends Agnes Anne LeRoi and Hedvig Samuelson, she wasn’t happy.

On October 16, 1931, LeRoi and Samuelson lost their lives at the hands of Judd. LeRoi’s body was placed in a trunk. Samuelson’s body was also placed in a trunk, but she was cut up first.

Judd tried to travel with the two trunks from Phoenix to Los Angeles two days later. The trunks were smelly and leaking, and train workers thought she was traveling with deer meat. When the police in Los Angeles opened the trunks, they learned that the truth was much worse.

Judd was arrested, convicted of LeRoi’s death, and sentenced to die. She was later found incompetent. She was given a life sentence and sent to a psychiatric facility. Despite escaping the facility 6 times during her stay, she was released on parole on December 22, 1971. She passed away on October 23rd, 1998.
