Murders of Saqib Hussain and Hashim Ijazuddin
In February 2022, Mahek Bukhari was a full-time content creator with brand deals and six-figure followings on Instagram and TikTok. But she threw it all away.
She learned that 21-year-old Saqib Hussain was blackmailing her married mother, Ansreen Bukhari, after Ansreen ended their affair.
Mahek and her mother agreed to meet Hussain one night at a gas station and pay him off, but it was a setup.
Mahek had a bunch of friends along, and they planned to beat up Hussain.
Hussain’s friend Hashim Ijazuddin drove him to the meeting, but they left immediately after sensing something was wrong.
They were chased by two vehicles and ended up crashing into a tree. Both men died.
In the fall of 2023, Mahek was found guilty of two counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison. She must serve at least 31 years and 8 months before she is eligible for release.
Her mother received life and must serve 26 years and 9 months before parole eligibility. Several others got prison time for their involvement in the crime.
Sentence reduction
In the fall of 2025, Mahek had her minimum sentence reduced to 26 years and 285 days.
Appeal judges ruled that her young age of 22 was not taken into account at the time of her sentence.
Three others in the case also had their sentences reduced.
