Tnashia Wash and her child were staying with her boyfriend, 30-year-old Roderick Richardson, at his place in Peoria, Illinois, on October 16th, 2023.
After an argument, Wash got her hand on a gun and started blasting away. She hit Richardson 6 times.
He died, and Wash was taken down to the station. She claimed the shooting was self-defense. She claimed Richardson threatened to shoot her child. She also claimed he charged at her before she started shooting.
An autopsy revealed that four of the shots hit Richardson in the back and from a distance.
Wash decided not to take the case to trial and pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
Before she was sentenced in August 2025, the Richardson family spoke of their grief from losing him.
Wash was facing a maximum of 35 years, but the judge sentenced the 20-year-old to 31 years in an Illinois prison.
Due to her age at the time of the crime, she will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years.
