Background

Anna Millette got dumped by her boyfriend in May 2022, so she hit him with her car. The 19-year-old had a bloody head injury, but he survived.

Anna locked herself inside her home and refused to come out.

Eventually, she was arrested and charged with two counts of felonious assault and several other charges.

She admitted that she had mental health issues, but stopped taking her medication a week prior to running her ex-boyfriend over, a decision that may have played a role in her actions.

She was convicted, and she spent about eight months in jail for the incident.

Crime

By the summer of 2024, she was back on the streets. She stopped taking her medication again after finding out she was pregnant. Three months later, she once again used a vehicle as a weapon.

She got into it with her mother, 64-year-old Joyce Millette, on June 15th and drove into her, pinning her against a garage wall.

When authorities arrived, Anna was still behind the wheel of the vehicle.

They tried to remove her, but she refused to comply; then, she threw it into reverse and fled. Her actions cause minor injuries to two officers.

She was chased and eventually crashed the vehicle. She was tased, taken into custody, and sent to the hospital for injuries that she sustained in the crash.

Meanwhile, her mother was pronounced dead at the hospital.

After being discharged from the hospital and getting booked into the Clermont County jail, Anna had her first court appearance.

Her bail amount was set extremely high because she had tried to escape from the hospital.

Due to a history of mental health issues, she was ordered to have a psychiatric evaluation. Three weeks after killing her mother, a judge ruled her incompetent to stand trial.

He said that in her mental state, she didn’t understand the “nature and objective of the proceedings against her,” which prevented her from “meaningfully assisting her defense.”

She was sent to Summit Behavioral Healthcare for treatment.

Conviction

Once she got better, she pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault.

At her sentencing on August 19th, 2025, her defense attorney, Julie Pederson, spoke of her improvements after she was sent to Summit Behavioral Healthcare. Pederson told the judge that treatment would be a better option than a long prison sentence.

Her father blamed mental illness for her actions. He wanted his daughter to receive help for her problems rather than get locked up for decades.

Prosecutors said she has a high chance of reoffending because she commits a violent offense whenever she is off her medication.

Although the prosecution and defense agreed to a maximum of 21 years, the judge had the discretion to sentence her to up to 47 years.

He sentenced Anna to 11 to 16.5 years for the involuntary manslaughter with violent repeat offender specification. The judge added consecutive 10 to 15 years for the felonious assault conviction. That charge also had a violent repeat offender specification.

The 24-year-old will be locked up for 21 to 26.5 years. It is unclear what prison she is in at this time.
