In 1985, a Siberian Husky brought home an item to its owners. The dog’s owners thought it was just a doll.
When they looked closer, they realized it was the body of a frozen baby girl that still had her umbilical cord attached.
Police followed the dogs track and determined the little girl, later named “Baby Jane Doe”, was born and abandoned in a Frenchville, Maine gravel pit 700 feet away from the Huskies home.
Homicide investigators had tire tracks in the snow and DNA, but not much else, and the case went cold for decades.
After DNA advancement, police were able to determine who the child’s father was. Further investigation helped them identify 58-year-old Lee Ann Daigle as the child’s mother.
She was arrested for the murder of Baby Jane Doe on on June 13th 2022.
On April 6th, 2023, she pled guilty to manslaughter by way of criminal negligence. She was facing up to twenty years in prison when she returned to court on On June 20th, 2023
The two daughter she birthed and raised after baby jane done testified on her behalf that she was a good mother and grandmother.
The judge called out her lack of remorse in court, but ended up giving her a light sentence.
She was sentenced 16 years with all but 6 years suspended. She also received 3 years probation.
Her earliest possible release date is November 5th, 2026
