Beth Carpenter was educated and successful. She was working for Haiman Clein, one of the best real estate attorneys in Connecticut.
Her younger sister Kim wasn’t as successful. She was a divorced single mom by the time she was 20.
In 1993, she married her second husband, Anson “Buzz” Clinton, and had another child. Anson didn’t have a stable job and eventually turned to stripping.
The Carpenter family wanted custody of Kim’s first child. The experienced lawyer Beth battled Anson in court, and surprisingly, Anson came out on top.
On March 10, 1994, he was found shot to death on the side of the road.
After a tip, police located the shooter, Mark Despres, and he pointed the finger at Haiman and Beth.
Police searched for the two, but both fled the country. Eventually, they were caught and taken back to the US.
The hitman received 45 years. Clein received 35 years. He was released in 2019 after serving 22 years.
Beth was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder on April 12th, 2002. She was sentenced to life without parole on August 2nd, 2002..
