The Alexandria Vera Case
In the summer of 2015, Alexandria Vera, a single mother and English teacher at Aldine ISD’s Stovall Middle School, had a 13-year-old in her class who would always flirt with her. At some point that summer, he asked for her Instagram, but she refused to give it to him.

He was persistent, found her Instagram, and sent her a follow request, but she denied it.
When fall classes started, the boy was in her class again, and his flirtations with her continued. When the boy missed school one day, she contacted him via Instagram to make sure he was ok. The boy asked for her phone number and told her he wanted to hang out. They met the next day and kissed for the first time. A day later, she went to his home, when he was alone, and they had sex for the first time.
On October 8th, 2015, at an open house, the boy introduced her to his parents. Later that night, Vera and the boy confessed they were a couple, and the parents were fine with it.
They were so accepting of the relationship, they would invite her to multiple family gatherings. They would also allow him to sleep at Vera’s house with her and her 6-year-old daughter.
In January 2016, she announced she was pregnant. The boy and his family were excited about the news. The excitement would not last for long, as people were starting to get suspicious.
Between the neighbors seeing a teen boy at her house all the time and their close relationship at school, Child Protective Services was alerted about the pair. They paid Vera a surprise visit in February 2016 to investigate her relationship with the boy and question her about her pregnancy. She denied having a sexual relationship with the boy and said she wasn’t pregnant. Frightened by the interview, she decided to abort the baby a few days later.
In April 2016, the school principal confronted her about the rumors, and she finally confessed to having a relationship with the boy.
Arrest And Prosecution
Police were called, and her confession, along with text messages lead to her arrest. In the spring of 2016, she was charged with continuous assault of a child, a charge that could have put her in prison for life. Her bail was set at $100,000.

In November 2016, she pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child to avoid the possibility of a life sentence. By pleading guilty to the lesser offense, she was facing up to 30 years in prison.
On January 13th, 2017, she received a 10-year prison sentence for her crimes. She was ordered to serve 5 years before becoming eligible for parole.
Aftermath
The boy was placed in foster care because his parents knew about and supported the illegal relationship. It’s unclear if he was ever reunited with his parents. Today, he would be about 24 years old.
Vera had her first parole hearing after serving 5 years, but her parole was denied. She was denied again on February 27th, 2025, forcing her to serve out her sentence.
She is expected to walk out of prison on January 12th, 2027.
