Crime
66-year-old Ahmad Alkhalaf was trying to sell an iPhone 15 on the Facebook marketplace. He met a potential buyer at a gas station in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, on November 8th, 2024, at around 3 pm.
The potential buyer was seen on surveillance video running off with the phone. Alkhalaf gave chase, and the potential buyer fired one shot that dropped the beloved, husband, father and grandfather.
The potential buyer then fled the scene with the phone. Police and medical personnel were called to the scene and took Alkhalaf to the hospital, where he passed away from his injuries.
Detectives investigated the facebook account and talked to witnesses and that led them to arrest 19-year-old Amaya Medrano.
Fox News revealed that Medrano was on probation after pleading guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a stabbing incident in 2023, showing that she didn’t learn her lesson.
Police later connected 18-year-old Annika Aleman to the case and, according to Fox4News, arrested her on November 15th, 2024. They said the Facebook account used to contact the victim was hers, and she provided the gun to Medrano to commit the robbery.
According to Fox4News, she posted Alkhalaf’s stolen phone for sale on Facebook three days after the shooting.
Both girls were locked up, with bonds set at $1 million.
Legal Proceedings
According to Fox4News, both girls pleaded guilty in the case in November 2025. Medrano received 55 years for the murder and a consecutive 5 years for the probation violation in the 2023 stabbing case.
Aleman received 37 years after pleading guilty to aggravated robbery.
Medrano will be eligible for parole in May 2052. Aleman will be eligible for parole in May 2043.
