Murder of Gregory Huguley
Anthony Todd Boyd was in the drug game back in the early 1990s, and if you owed him money, he wouldn’t let it slide.
One guy owed him $200, so on July 31st, 1993, Boyd and three accomplices put a gun to the debtor’s face and snatched him off a street in Anniston, Alabama, forced him into their van, and took him to a baseball field just outside the city.
The man had his wrist, ankles, and mouth duct taped, then he was taped to a bench, doused with gasoline, and burned alive as the four men watched.
Afterward, the guys returned to Anniston. The victim was found the next day, and after a swift investigation, police caught up with Boyd.
He was convicted of the brutal crime, and he was sentenced to death.
Execution
During his time on death row, Boyd received media attention for requesting to be executed by firing squad or hanging; however, those requests were denied.
He appealed, saying that others who committed similar crimes were prosecuted for the lesser charge of felony murder rather than capital murder. That appeal was denied.
The 54-year-old was executed by nitrogen hypoxia on October 23, 2025. The controversial execution method forced him to breathe nitrogen gas through a mask, leading him to suffocate. According to TheGuardian, he was pronounced dead at 6.33 pm
The execution method has since been called into question, and several scheduled nitrogen hypoxia executions in 2026 were carried out by lethal injection instead.
