Crime

On May 3rd, 2019, 27-year-old Anthony Trice was at his home in Louisville, Kentucky, caring for his one-month-old son De’Anthony Trice.

Anthony was playing a video game, and when he started losing, he threw his remote control across the room. That didn’t calm him down, so he decided to sock his one-month-old in the head with a closed fist.

As you might expect, the child started crying. Anthony reportedly dropped the child while carrying him to the kitchen. Anthony then grabbed a bottle and took the newborn back to the bedroom.

Anthony propped his son up and left him alone while he went to the bathroom. When he came back, he noticed something was wrong with his son, so he called 911. His son was taken to the hospital.

A day after the incident, Anthony was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child.

The little boy died two days after he was punched, and Anthony’s charges were upgraded to murder and according to WLKY, his bond was set a $1 million.

Family’s response

After Anthony’s arrest and the child’s death, the baby’s aunt spoke to WLKY, saying she and the child’s mother had left the baby with Anthony while they attended Kentucky Derby festivities. She also claimed Anthony was excited to purchase some new clothing for his son.

Legal Proceedings

Anthony initially pleaded not guilty to murder, but in November 2024, Anthony entered an Alford plea to first-degree manslaughter.

A month later, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
