These are the most infamous inmates serving time in Nevada, part one.
In 1993, Travis Smith, the brother of Brookey Lee West, went missing. Since there was no body and no evidence of a crime, no arrests were made.
A year after her brother went missing, West married a man, but the marriage didn’t last. Her husband would report her for spousal abuse, although the charges were dropped.
Soon after, he was found shot to death. Police investigated, but didn’t have the evidence to arrest anyone.
In 1988, Brookey Lee West’s mother, Christine Smith, disappeared. West was questioned and told the investigator that Christine had moved out of state to live with a relative.
Three years later, the truth was revealed. Christine’s dead body was found in a West’s storage unit.
West would claim her mother died of natural causes, but she was convicted of murder on July 19th, 2001, with the prosecution claiming she killed her mother so she could collect her $1,000 social security checks.
She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Police believe she is behind the 1993 disappearance of her brother. They also think she took the life of her husband in 1994, weeks after he reported her for abuse.
Unfortunately, they don’t have the evidence to prosecute her for those crimes.
