Chelsea Perkins was visiting Cleveland in March 2021 and met up with 31-year-old Matthew Dunmire.
The duo spent the night together, and on the morning of March 6, 2021, they visited Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Perkins fatally shot Dunmire.
She fled the area and went to get a noose tattoo on her arm
His body was found three days later. Perkins became the prime suspect, but she wasn’t arrested right away.
Matthews’s parents wanted revenge. His mother, Tommie Lynn Dunmire, went to a home in DC, and when a woman opened the door, Tommie Lynn shot her twice in the stomach.
However, it wasn’t Perkins, and she shot the wrong person.
The woman survived, Tommie Lynn deleted herself, and her husband got 3 years and six months for his role in the revenge plot.
Perkins was eventually arrested. She claimed Matthew violated her back in 2017. Her claims were investigated at the time, but there was insufficient evidence of a crime.
Perkins pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence on federal property.
She was between 20 and 25 years old. In September 2025, the judge sentenced the 35-year-old to 22 and a half years in federal prison.
She is serving her time at in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. Her release date is scheduled for February 9th, 2041.
When she gets out, she will be on supervised release for 5 years.
