Debora Green married Michael Farrar in 1979, and the couple had three children. By 1994, Farrar wanted a divorce.
The couple tried to reconcile, even taking a family trip to Peru in June 1995, but Farrar was ready to move on.
In July 1995, he asked for a divorce again. Over the next two months, he got sick multiple times, but doctors couldn’t determine the cause.
On October 24 1995, the family home caught on fire. Green escaped, as did her 10-year-old daughter Kate, but her other two children, 13-year-old Timothy and 6-year-old Kelly, died.
Kate would later tell police that her mother seemed “terribly upset” when she heard Kate’s voice and realized she had made it out.
After investigating, authorities determined that the fire had been set intentionally.
They also learned that Green had been poisoning her husband with Ricin.
She was arrested on November 22 and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
She pleaded no contest and received a sentence of 40 years to life on May 30th, 1996.
She is serving her time at Topeka Correctional Facility in Topeka, Kansas.
She is eligible for parole on November 21st, 2035.
