In July 2022, 17 year old Elena Marie Rodriguez was going home from work when she got involved in a street race with Jakel Huckaby. Huckaby was driving a stolen car at the time and had 5 other people in the car with him.
The two cars sped through an intersection going more than 100 miles per hour. At the same time, Lyft driver Terry Hill had customer Sara Loustaunau and British Pena in his car.
When Hill turned left Huckaby’s car came out of nowhere and slammed into the passenger side of Hill’s vehicle. The car caught on fire. Hill, Loustaunau and Pena all died.
19-year-old Galexy Saunders, a passenger in Huckaby’s car, also died.
Rodriguez’s car was not involved in the collision, so she left the scene. Police caught up with her a few months later and arrested her.
Huckaby went to trial and was sentenced to 19 years. Rodriguez was convicted and on December 18th, 2023, sentenced to 9 years. His mother has a controversial TikTok account where she talks about her daughter’s role in the accident.
Rodriguez’s scheduled release date is August 10th, 2031.
