Adam Baker was living in Australia when he met Elisa Fairchild online. Elisa went to Australia, and the two hit it off. Eventually, they were married.
Adam moved to North Carolina with his daughter, Zahra Baker. Zahra had cancer, and her health problems led to her lower leg being amputated, and she had to wear hearing aids.
Elisa wasn’t a good stepmom and mistreated Zahra.
Zahra went missing on October 9th, 2010, and a ransom note was left behind. Elisa failed a polygraph and quickly became the prime suspect.
She was arrested the next day on unrelated charges.
Her lawyer contacted the district attorney on October 23rd and said that Elisa would lead them to the body if they promised to take first-degree murder off the table.
They agreed, and she led them to several locations where she dumped the little girl’s body parts.
Elisa was sentenced to 15 to 18 years for second-degree murder.
She was sentenced to a consecutive 10 years in federal prison for drug charges, as she was also involved in drug distribution from May 2006 to October 2010.
She completed her state charges for second-degree murder on July 2nd, 2025.
She was sent to the Federal Prison Camp in Alderson, WV. She is scheduled to be released on April 5th, 2032
