Murder of Charlie Satrustegui

According to Fox5Vegas, in April 2023, 36-year-old Charlie Satrustegui matched with Emma Kusak on the online dating app Bumble. Kusak was just 17 at the time, but it’s unclear what age was listed on her dating profile.

Although Satrustegui lived in California and Kusak resided in Las Vegas, Nevada, the two exchanged around 30 text messages over two months.

Satrustegui planned a trip to Vegas, and the two met on June 28, 2023.

The next day, at around 8 am, Kusak allegedly called the police and told them she had shot and killed a man at the Luxor Hotel and Casino on the Vegas strip and fled the scene.

Authorities went to the property and found Satrustegui dead in his 12th-floor room; he had been shot in the head.

Hours later, Kusak turned herself in. Fox5Vegas reported that when she was interviewed, she told authorities Satrustegui picked her up and took her to his room, where they spent the night drinking before falling asleep.

She stated they argued later that night because Satrustegui wanted her to leave because she was coughing. She claimed he came toward her, and she feared for her life, so she grabbed his gun and shot him.

Police challenged her account, and she changed her story. She said he tried to kick her out, and since she was desperate and had nowhere to go, she decided to rob him. She said she shot him when he lunged for the gun.

After the shooting, she took his wallet and three phones, and then she fled in his vehicle. She abandoned the car and other items before hopping in an Uber.

She was charged with murder, robbery, and grand theft. 8NewsNow reported in September 2024 that she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon.

She was sentenced to 11 to 27 and a half years in prison and was also ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution to Satrustegui’s family.
