Murder of Jon Tokuhara
51-year-old Jon Tokuhara was found dead inside his Honolulu, Hawaii, acupuncture clinic on January 12th, 2022.

Police pulled surveillance video and saw a man pull up to Tokuhara’s clinic in a white Chevrolet Silverado. The man entered Tokuhara’s office and left after less than a minute.
Police made contact with 53 people who own vehicles like the one that was spotted at the murder scene.
Detectives zeroed in on Eric Thompson, as he was the only one without an alibi.
They also learned that Thompson’s wife had been a patient of Tokuhara and had an affair with him between May and July 2021.
In addition to the surveillance footage, the lack of an alibi, and the vehicle, investigators had a hat that was dropped at the scene, and Thompson could not be excluded as the source of the DNA found on it.
Thompson was arrested for murder in February 2022, but was quickly released on $1 million bond.
Legal Proceedings
At his first trial in 2023, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, and a mistrial was declared.
At his second trial, he testified that he and his wife were rebuilding their relationship and had moved past the affair.
His lawyer said he was not in the area at the time of the murder. They also claimed that other married men had motives to go after Tokuhara.
The jury was unconvinced and delivered a guilty verdict.
Thompson returned to court in June 2025 and was given the chance to speak and thanked his friends and family for their support.
He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 15 years. Also sentenced to an indeterminate 20-year term for carrying or use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony.
