Murder of Dee Dee Blanchard
Gypsy-Rose Blanchard grew up being told by her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, that she had numerous health issues. In grade school, she was told she had muscular dystrophy and needed a walker. Soon she was forced to use a wheelchair.
Dee Dee benefited financially from Gyspy’s “disabilities”. Dee Dee got a home from Habitat for Humanity, and nearby locals would also help them out.
In her late teens and early 20s Gypsy had free access to the internet. Around 2012, she met Nicholas Godejohn on a Christian singles website. The two spent years chatting. They talked about getting married and even named their future kids.
Gypsy paid for Godejohn to come to Springfield in March 2015. They met at a movie there and were intimidated in the bathroom.
From there, they started to discuss getting rid of her mother.
Godejohn came back to Springfield on June 10, 2015. After Dee Dee went to sleep, Gypsy let him in and gave him a knife, gloves, and other items.
Godejohn stabbed Dee Dee 17 times, killing her. The two were intimate, then they fled the scene with four thousand dollars they stole from Dee Dee.
They were arrested in Wisconsin days later.
Godejohn went to trial and ended up getting life without parole plus 25 years. Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years.
She was released on December 28, 2023, after serving 8 years.
