In 2023, 51-year-old Steven Edward Riley Jr. learned that he was about to receive a $30 million inheritance from a distant relative. The father of five was planning to ditch his girlfriend of 10 years, 47-year-old Ina Thea Kenoyer, and split the money with his five sons.
Kenoyer knew about the inheritance and didn’t want to be left out, so she decided to kill Riley so she could inherit the money.
On September 3, 2023, Riley was taken to the hospital. His condition deteriorated, and he died two days later.
An autopsy revealed he died of antifreeze poisoning.
Kenoyer was questioned, and she denied doing anything wrong. She was arrested on October 30, 2023, and charged with murder.
She soon learned that there was no money and it was all a scam. In May 2024, she pleaded guilty to murder and extreme indifference to human life.
She was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ten years probation.
She is serving her sentence at Dakota Women’s Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in New England, North Dakota.
Her release date is scheduled for January 27th, 2045
