A Wedding Night Turns Into A Nightmare

Just moments after their wedding reception on April 28th, 2023, Aric Hutchinson, Samantha Miller, and two others were traveling in a golf cart on a residential street when Jamie Lee Komoroski mowed them down.

Miller died having only been married for 5 hours. Luckily, the others survived.

When she hit them, Komoroski was reportedly driving 65 miles an hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone.

When authorities arrived, they asked her to take a field sobriety test, but she refused and said she “did nothing wrong.”

A blood test later revealed that her blood alcohol level was .261, more than three times the legal limit.

She remained in jail for 10 months. During that time, several of her phone calls went public, including one where she stated, “I just don’t know why this had to happen to me.”

Her father responded,  “Because bad things happen to good people, honey. That’s why.”

She was released on a $150,000 bond on March 1st, 2024.

Legal Proceedings

She was about to go to trial in December 2024. At the last moment, she decided to plead guilty to two counts of felony DUI causing great bodily injury, one count of reckless homicide, and one count of felony DUI causing death.

At her sentencing, the victim’s family spoke about their loss.

Komoroski had an opportunity to speak. She apologized for her actions.

After that, the judge handed down a 25-year sentence. Komoroski was stunned as she expected a much lighter punishment.

Aftermath

Days after her sentencing, the 26-year-old had her attorneys file a motion for a sentence reduction, saying that her sentence was much higher than in similar cases.

They gathered data that reveals people who have faced similar charges in the same county and nearby areas have usually been sentenced to 9 to 18 years in prison.

As of July 30th, 2026, Komoroski is serving her sentence at Leath Correctional Institution in Greenwood County, SC. She has a projected release date of April 24th, 2045.

She will be 47 years old when she is released.
