Murder of Caleb and Alyssa Lynch

On April 10th, 2010, while his pregnant girlfriend, Lisa Lynch, was at work, Jeffrey Allen Weisheit intentionally set fire to their Evansville home with Lisa’s children, 5-year-old Caleb Lynch and 8-year-old Alyssa Lynch, trapped inside.

Before starting the fire, Weisheit tied up Caleb and doused parts of the house with an accelerant.

Firefighters arrived to find the house fully engulfed in flames.
After putting out the fire, both kids were found dead.

Autopsy results confirmed they both died from smoke inhalation.

Weisheit fled the scene in Lisa’s car and was captured later that day in Kentucky after a high-speed chase that reached up to 140 miles per hour, Fox59 reported.

He attempted to attack officers with a knife during his arrest, hoping they would kill him. The officers held their gunfire and used their tasers to subdue him.

Legal Proceedings

According to Fox59, Weisheit claims he was offered a deal to plead guilty to his crimes and receive a life without the possibility of parole sentence, but he went to trial because at that time, he wanted to die.

According to the Indiana Capital Chronicle, Weisheit was convicted of two counts of murder and arson resulting in serious bodily injury at his 2013 trial.

The jury recommended the death penalty, citing two death penalty aggravators- multiple murders and the murders of two children under 12. The judge upheld the jury’s recommendation and sentenced Weisheit to death.

Weisheit’s Execution is scheduled

After years of waiting, WTHR and other news outlets reported on August 28th, 2026, that the Indiana Supreme Court ordered he be put to death by lethal injection before sunrise on November 5th, 2026.

In response, his attorneys said they were not done fighting for their client, as they plan to pursue clemency and other legal options. They feel their client isn’t in the right mental state to be executed, and they claim that State and Federal courts have refused “to consider the effects of his complex and severe brain damage and mental illness,” Indiana Capital Chronicle reported.

Clemency Hearing

Fox59 reported that Weisheit had a clemency hearing that started on Friday, October 16th, 2026, at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. He testified on his own behalf, making claims that he was unhappy with his then-girlfriend, Lisa, because she spent money on plastic surgery and gave him a sexually transmitted disease.

The hearing is expected to last for several more days, with his attorneys, the Indiana attorney general, and possibly the victim’s mother testifying.
