Murder of Thomas Martin
Kegia Mitchell was working as a security guard at a 7-Eleven in Las Vegas.
On August 26th, 2020, the store limited the amount of customers inside at once.
56-year-old Thomas Martin was waiting to get in. He got mad when he felt that Mitchell was letting people in ahead of him, so he swore at her and threatened her before busting into the store.
Mitchell grabbed him, and a shoving match ensued. Another employee stepped in to de-escalate, but soon Mitchell pulled a gun and put it in Martin’s face.
As he backed outside, she ended up shooting him.
She was charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon.
Authorities learned she got the gun three months earlier as a Mother’s Day gift and failed her first firearms training.
She enters an Alford plea to voluntary manslaughter with the use of a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.
She was sentenced to 5.5 to 14 years in prison.
