Murder of Joshua Price

Madison McGall was just fifteen when she set up the meeting. She wasn’t old enough to drive, vote, or even hold a job, yet on the night of October 29, 2020, she became central to a robbery that spiraled into murder. What began as a plan between siblings in Valrico, Florida, ended with a young man dead, a community shaken, and two teenagers facing the full weight of adult charges.

21-year-old Joshua Price was the victim. That evening, he drove to the Oak Crest section of the Bloomingdale neighborhood expecting to buy marijuana. Instead, he was walking into a trap. Madison was the bait, approaching Price’s vehicle under the pretense of completing the deal. As he sat inside his car, she attempted to rob him. At that moment, her older brother Henry, eighteen years old and armed with a handgun, came up on the other side. In the chaos that followed, Henry pulled the trigger.

The single shot struck Price, but he didn’t immediately collapse. In a desperate effort to save himself, he and the passenger who had accompanied him switched seats, trying to get him to Brandon Regional Hospital as fast as possible. By the time they reached the hospital doors, Price had succumbed to his wound. Doctors could do nothing but pronounce him dead on arrival.

Investigation and Arrests

Detectives with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office launched an immediate investigation. Witness accounts, forensic evidence, and neighborhood surveillance footage allowed them to piece together the truth quickly. Within twenty-four hours, they had identified Madison and Henry McGall as their suspects. Both were taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder while engaged in a robbery. These charges carried the potential for life sentences.

Legal Proceedings

For the community, one detail stood out more than any other: Madison’s age. At just fifteen, she would normally have been processed through the juvenile justice system. But prosecutors emphasized the seriousness of the crime, and she was charged as an adult alongside her brother. While Henry was held without bond, Madison was granted release pending trial. The decision sparked debate — a reminder of how juvenile defendants in violent cases often straddle the line between child and adult in the eyes of the law.

As the legal proceedings unfolded, the siblings’ cases separated. Henry rejected plea deals and continued to face the possibility of trial and a much longer sentence. Madison, however, eventually accepted responsibility. She entered a guilty plea to reduced charges: third-degree murder, burglary, and robbery. The plea agreement carried a five-year prison sentence, followed by 10 years of probation, reflecting both her role in the crime and her age at the time.

Her brother would also plead guilty to his role in the case. He was sentenced to 25 years.
