Margaret Shafe was married to US Army Soldier Greg Shafe, but the marriage ended in violence on February 19th, 2024.
She threatened to kill him, and 20 minutes later, she grabbed his gun and shot him in the face as he held their 11-month-old daughter. He collapsed in front of his 9-year-old stepdaughter.
Margaret grabbed her kids and drove off the Fort Riley military base while she was impaired, but she was arrested soon after.
She reportedly bragged about the murder while she was locked up. At her trial, the prosecutor revealed that he was supposed to be deployed to Poland the day he was killed, but stayed home as they had a newborn that was in intensive care.
Prosecutors painted Margaret as a drunk who was abusive toward her husband.
Her daughter took the stand against her.
The jury convicted Margaret of murder on February 14th, 2025. On September 26th, 2025, she was sentenced to 24 years and 4 months in federal prison.
She is serving her time at the Tallahassee Federal Correctional Institution. Her release date is set for December 10th, 2044.
