Murder of Kayla Hodgson
When Sakiyna Thompson saw her ex-boyfriend with a new woman, she wasn’t happy.
She started plotting, and in July 2022, while she was two months pregnant, she flew from New York to Florida with murder on her mind.
She went to the apartment of 23-year-old Kayla Hodgson and stabbed her dozens of times.
She then tried to clean up, put on some of Hodgson’s clothing, and hopped on a flight back to New York.
Hodgson was found dead on July 13th, and after a short investigation, Thompson was arrested and sent back to Florida to face murder charges.
At her October 2025 trial, Thompson claimed she only wanted to meet Hodgson to talk. She contended that Hodgson slashed her stomach. Thompson said she feared for her unborn baby’s life and only stabbed her romantic rival in self-defense.
The jury was unconvinced and convicted the 31-year-old of first-degree murder.
She was sentenced on December 1st, 2025, to life without the possibility of parole.
She is currently being held at the Florida Women’s Reception Center in Ocala, FL. After reception, she will be sent to her permanent prison.
