Crime
In the fall of 1985, Samuel Moreland and his girlfriend, Glenna Green, lived with Glenna’s daughter, Tia Talbott. Tia’s five kids and Tia’s boyfriend, Thurston, also lived at the home.
On the night of November 1st, 1985, Gleena’s other daughter, Lana Green, and her three children were at the residence, spending the night.
Moreland argued with Glenna because she wouldn’t give him money for alcohol. He left for an hour and a half, and when he returned, he and Glenna argued again.
He left again and came back 10 minutes later with a rifle. He killed Glenna, her daughter Lana, and three of her grandchildren. Three other kids were left for dead but survived.
Tia, Thurston, and one of Lana’s kids came home and found the bodies.
Moreland went and hung out with a friend for a while. The friend drove him back to the scene of the crime, and he was arrested.
He was convicted of 5 counts of aggravated murder and three counts of attempted aggravated murder and sentenced to death.
Death
His execution was pushed back multiple times due to legal wrangling and also due to Ohio’s inability to procure lethal injection drugs.
According to WHIO, Governor Mike DeWine pushed his July 2025 execution date back to July 2028. Unfortunately, Moreland didn’t live long enough to get the punishment he deserved.
The 72-year-old died at the Franklin Medical Center, a prison hospital in Columbus, Ohio, on February 27th, 2026.
