A two-year-old boy was taken to a hospital in Reading, Pennsylvania, on January 8th, 1993, where he was pronounced dead.
His body showed bruises in different stages of healing, indicating a prolonged period of abuse.
The cause of death was ruled a homicide due to multiple blunt force injuries to his head.
The boy lived with his father and his father’s girlfriend Sandra Guadalupe-Castro. Authorities spoke with relatives of the deceased boy in an effort to find out who caused his death, but the case went unsolved.
Detectives reopened the case in 2025. Old witnesses were reinterviewed, and evidence and medical records were reexamined.
After putting together a detailed timeline, authorities came to believe that the child’s girlfriend, Sandra Guadalupe-Castro, was alone with the boy when the fatal blows ultimately caused his death.
Guadalupe-Castro, now 57 years old, was arrested on October 7th, 2025. She is facing charges of first and third-degree murder and is being held without bond in the Berks County jail.
