After twenty years of marriage, Audrey Marie Hilley was sick of her husband, Frank, so she started poisoning him. He died on May 25, 1975.

Audrey got $31,000 from a secret life insurance policy.

In 1978, she took out a policy on her daughter Carol. She started poisoning her and giving her injections.

In October 1979, doctors determined Carol had a ton of arsenic in her system. Authorities got involved, exhumed Frank’s body, and determined he died due to arsenic poisoning.

They arrested Audrey, but she was released on bail and then ran. Three years later was captured and sent back to Alabama. In 1983, she was convicted of murder and attempted murder.

In February 1987, her maximum-security prison granted her a three-day furlough pass. She never went back. She spent days in the woods during rain and cold and ended up dying of hypothermia hours after she was taken to the hospital.

She was 53 years old.
