In 2012, Jessica Dutoro was a 24-year-old mother of four living in Tigard, Oregon, dating a man named Brian Cannady.
Zachary Dutro-Boggess was harmed by his mother and Cannady in a Tigard Homeless shelter in August.
They watched his health decline before calling for help.
Zachary was taken to a Portland hospital on August 14, 2012, the day after his 4th birthday. He was put on life support and died two days later.
His 3-year-old brother and 7-year-old sister were also taken in and examined. The 3-year-old had five broken ribs, and the 7-year-old had multiple bruises.
Jessica and Cannady had a 1-year-old together, but he wasn’t hurt.
The couple was arrested.
It was later revealed they harmed Zachary because they thought he was gay.
Cannady pleaded guilty to assault and manslaughter and got 12.5 years.
Jessica went to trial, where her oldest testified against her. Jessica received 25 life. Both are barred from contacting Zahary’s siblings.
