Gregory Green Murders His First Wife

25-year-old Gregory Green called Dearborn Heights police on July 14th, 1991, and confessed to ending the life of his wife, Tonya Green, and their unborn child. Tonya was six months pregnant at the time.

Green pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 15 to 25 years in prison.

Prison Time And Release

While he was in prison, he kept in contact with Fred Harris. Harris was a pastor, and Gregory had been a member of his church.

Fred was under the impression that Gregory had killed his wife in self-defense, and as time passed, Fred became convinced that Gregory had changed.

He wrote a letter to the Michigan parole board in August 2005 saying, “I feel he has paid for his unfortunate lack of self-control and the damage he has caused as much as possible and is sorry.”

The letter continued, “If he was to be released, he would be welcome as part of our church community, and whatever we could do to help him adjust, we would.”

Gregory’s other friends and family supported his freedom, as he seemed remorseful, had only one infraction while locked up, and completed educational programs.

At his fifth parole hearing in 2008, he was granted release.

Gregory Begins A Relationship With The Pastor’s Daughter

Gregory returned to Fred’s church after his release, and at one point, he started dating Fred’s daughter mother of two, Faith Harris. Faith had known Gregory when she was 14, but when he went off to prison, she wasn’t sure why.

When she asked him about it, he told her he pushed his first wife in self-defense, and she fell, hit her head, and died.

Gregory and Faith split up early in the relationship, but after Faith found out she was pregnant with Koi, they got back together.

The couple married on December 18th, 2010, and went on to have another daughter named Kaleigh. As the year passed, the police responded to the couple’s home for domestic issues, but no one was ever arrested.

Faith requested a protective order in February 2013, but the judge rejected her request.

She filed for divorce in October 2013, and the two split up, but after a couple of years, they reconnected and moved back in together.

She filed for divorce again in August 2016, citing a “breakdown in the marriage relationship.”

Gregory Green Murders His Family, Again

On September 21st, 2016, Green killed of Koi and Kaleigh with carbon monoxide from a running vehicle.

He fatally shot Harris’s teenage children right in front of her, shot Harris in the foot, and slashed her face. But he didn’t kill her.

He called the police, confessed, and waited for them to arrive and take him into custody. During his interrogation, he spoke of wanting to hurt and punish Faith.

While Faith was in the hospital, she learned that Gregory didn’t kill his first wife in self-defense. He had brutally stabbed her to death. The shocking revelation would lead Faith to distance herself from her father.

Legal Proceedings

A year after the killing of his kids and stepkids, Gregory pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree murder and several other charges.

At his sentencing, he cried as he spoke to the court, saying, “I’m sorry this happened. God knows the heart. He knows how regretful … how sorry I am. It not one day that goes by I don’t think of my girls.”

He also stated, “I feel bad for how this has deeply impacted everyone, and may God help them, help me.”

However, he did not explain why he did what he did.

He was sentenced to 47 to 102 years in prison.
