Luna Family Murder
Richard Djerf’s home was burglarized in January 2023. Some electronics and an AK-47 rifle were stolen, and Djerf, thought his friend Albert Luna Jr., was behind the crime. The two had met while working night shifts at a local supermarket.
Djerf went to the cops, but ultimately he decided to get revenge.
He visited the Luna family home on September 14th, 1993, carrying flowers. When 42-year-old Patricia Luna opened the door, he pulled a gun and forced his way inside. She was there with her 5-year-old son Damien, and they both became Djerf’s hostages.
He forced Patricia to put some items into his vehicle, then he tied her and her son up. He toyed with the frightened duo as he asked Patricia who she wanted to die first, her or her son. He also inquired about Albert Junoir’s whereabouts.
Patricia’s 18-year-old daughter, Rochelle Luna, returned home around 3 pm. Djerf forced her into an upstairs bedroom, violated her, and then killed her.
He returned downstairs to let Patricia know her daughter was dead.
Albert Luna Sr. arrived home after that, Djerf took him to a bedroom and beat him with a bat. When he returned downstairs, Patricia was free. She charged at him with a knife and stabbed him in the arm.
Djerf was done playing games and killed Patricia, Arbert Senior, and Damien.
He poured gasoline on the bodies and put a pizza box on the stove, hoping to burn the place down.
He told his girlfriend that he had been robbed and stabbed before he went to the hospital to have his arm treated.
Albert Junior returned home the next night and walked in on his family slaughtered. Luckily, the home did not burn down as Djerf hoped, so there was a lot of evidence for investigators to collect.
Djerf bragged about the crime and was captured 4 days later. Inside his residence were the murder weapons and several items he took from the Luna household.
Djerf tried to delete himself while he was in jail, but he survived.
Legal Proceedings
He pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder on August 16th, 1995, hoping it would keep him off death row, but it didn’t.
The judge sentenced him to death.
