Background

Mystikal was one of the biggest rap artists of the late 90s and early 2002’s, but his career went south in 2003 when he and two bodyguards were arrested for violating his hairstylist after accusing her of stealing $80,000.

He was facing life, but he was jailed for six years as part of a plea deal. After his release, he maintained his innocence, and the rap community welcomed him back with open arms. He signed a deal with Cash Money Records but left the label before releasing an album.

He was accused of violating another woman in 2017, but the charges were dropped in 2020.

2022 Rape Case

In July 2022, another woman accused him of assaulting and raping her. According to WBRZ, he accused her of stealing money from him, then he punched her, choked her, and pulled her braids out. Then took her keys and phone so she couldn’t leave or call anyone. After that, he pushed her on a bed and raped her. After the brutal assault, the woman claims he sent himself money from her phone, then let her leave.

He was arrested in July 2022 for first-degree rape and false imprisonment.

Legal Proceedings

He was supposed to go to trial on March 30, 2026, and he was facing a mandatory life sentence if convicted.

He decided not to take the risk and pleaded guilty to 3rd degree rape on March 17th, 2026, according to KLFY.

WBRZ reported that on June 12th, 2026, he filed a motion to withdraw his guilty plea so he could go to trial instead. In the motion, he claimed he was “under significant emotional distress and felt substantial pressure to make an immediate decision” and “did not have sufficient opportunity to fully consider the consequences.”

When he went to court on June 16th, 2026, his motion to withdraw his guilty plea was denied, and the court proceeded to the sentencing phase. The victim spoke, asking the judge to give Tyler the maximum sentence.

Mystikal also spoke saying, “If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence.”

The judge gave him the maximum of 20 years in prison. He has already served 16 years and will likely be released around 2042, when he will be 71 years old.
